Welcome to SIGTOMICS! I'm Tom Siglin, radio operator WA2LTD, audiophile, computer user and electronic designer. This page provides background, features and options. Page two covers use of the Soft Start-Inrush Current Limiter with your radio, amplifier, computer or transmitter. The price list page has online ordering.

  • BACKGROUND:

I began using soft start circuits when I saw the benefits for my  radio, computer and audio gear. Soft starts remove the power-on strain away from my equipment.

Keep in mind that soft starts are not the surge protector you may be familiar with. The typical power bar you buy, i.e. for a computer etc, only contains protection against VOLTAGE surges. Soft start units provide protection against CURRENT surges. Try one on your equipment. It is gauranteed or your money back (less shipping).

  • FEATURES:

10 Second ramp up time (Super Soft longer, linear and transmitter shorter)

2.5% Voltage reduction typical (Voltage Bucking, more reduction through voltage bucking available)

About two Amps of initial inrush current for RECEIVER model (Super Soft even lower, others higher)

Available for equipment of 1 to 15 Amps (120 to 1800 Watts) at 120 Volts and 15 Amp, 240 Volt service.

Solid State Circuit Breaker (To protect against damage) Over temperature protected, Some high power and all kit models uses a thermo circuit breaker

Natural finish steel metal enclosure for durability on transmitter and basic receiver models. Die-cast aluminum on others. Painted black available

Digital and computer equipment should only be used with the models approved for their use. Erratic operation may result from improper soft start selection.

  • OPTIONS:

Multi circuit models available. Add an additional or several independent circuits in one enclosure to keep the cord clutter down and reduce the overall cost for the Soft Start. Prices are about 66% of a additional unit.

Transient over-voltage option is available in "basic" and "full" configurations. Basic protects the power line itself where full protects all three wires coming into the Soft Start.

RFI/EMI interference filtering. Available as "basic" and "full" versions, similar to transient surge protection.

Enclosure upgrade from steel type to painted, die-cast aluminum style available on many models.

The fully automatic, semi automatic and manual bypass models contain circuitry that remove the soft start circuit from the power line once the its function is complete. This eliminates any influence of the Soft Start on your audio and  is usefull where high power loads such as HAM radio linear amplifiers are involved. This model contains its own on/off switch.
